Zhang Weili returns to the cage at the UFC 281 event when she challenges Carla Esparza for the UFC strawweight championship.

Zhang Weili looks to become a two-time strawweight champion at UFC 281.

Weili (22-3-0) is coming off a sensational second-round knockout win over Joanna Jedrzejczyk at the UFC 275 event this past June. The 33-year-old has proven to be one of the fiercest strawweights in the division and owns victories over notable names including Jessica Andrade and Tecia Torres.

At UFC 281, Weili will be up against a very different challenge when she takes on a wrestling specialist in Carla Esparza. During a recent appearance on Fruiting Body Podcast, Weili discussed the upcoming fight.

Because Joanna and Carla, they are different fighters … Joanna is a stand-up fighter, Carla is a wrestler, so our tactics will definitely have some changes. It’s my first time fighting a wrestler, I’ve never fought a wrestler before. I’m very excited and I also want to test my wrestling and my controlling skills.” she continued.

If Weili is to beat Carla Esparza, she will become a two-time UFC strawweight champion. The Chinese standout captured the belt for the first time in August 2019 by knocking out Jessica Andrade but would then go on to lose it to Rose Namajunas in 2021.

UFC 281 takes place on November 12, 2022, from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States.
