Zhang Weili is interested in a champion vs. champion super-fight against reigning flyweight titleholder Valentina Shevchenko.
Weili (23-3-0) defeated Carla Esparza by way of a second-round submission at the recent UFC 281 event to successfully become a two-time strawweight champion.
During a recent chat with China Daily, Weili admitted she isn’t quite sure who will be first to challenge her for the UFC’s 115-pound title.
“There are so many great fighters in this division at the moment. I don’t have a particular name that I want to fight for now. I will wait for the call from UFC to decide which one is more appealing. I am all in.” she said.
A fight that does interest Weili is a super-fight against reigning UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. The 33-year-old would love the opportunity to move up to 125-pounds and become a two-division champion.
“I think it would be a great fight. It’s one I’ve considered before. She is a very versatile fighter with a complete package. I hope it can be arranged whenever UFC sees fit.”
Zhang has made it known for quite some time she wants to fight Shevchenko. After defeating Jessica Andrade in 2019 to begin her first reign as UFC strawweight champ, Weili issued multiple call-outs for ‘The Bullet’, all to no avail.
