Veronica Macedo is stepping in on just one week’s notice to face Ariane Lipski at UFC Sao Paulo.
Priscila Cachoeira was originally scheduled to face fellow Brazilian Ariane Lipski, however, a failed drug test has forced Cachoeira to withdraw from the bout.
Cachoeira has openly discussed the findings. Speaking to MMA Fighting, she said, “It was an accident. My mother, who also has high blood pressure, saw me ill, so she gave me the medicine she usually takes. I had no idea what she was giving me. I wasn’t even thinking about USADA, I just wanted to get better. She has no idea what USADA does.”
Cachoeira concluded, “When USADA told me the date of the test, I started thinking how that was possible, and then I remembered. I called my mom asking which medicine she gave me, and she said hydrocholorothiazide, the diuretic she uses. She started crying, feeling guilty about it, but I said it’s not her fault, that I’m an athlete and I’m the one that should worry about it.”
Lipski will now face Veronica Macedo.
Lipski (11-5) will be entering the bout looking to secure her first UFC victory. After entering the UFC on a nine-fight win streak, Lipski dropped back-to-back decisions in her first two appearances to Joanne Calderwood and Molly McCann.
Macedo (6-3-1), who scored her first UFC win in August with a first round submission of Polyana Viana, jumped at the opportunity to fill in for Cachoeira to take on the former KSW champion, Lipski.
Macedo is also scheduled to fight Amanda Lemos in a strawweight contest in December’s Busan card. Per her Instagram, Macedo is hoping to compete in both bouts.
