UFC strawweight contender Xiaonan Yan has opened up about how moving to the USA and training at Team Alpha Male has helped her evolve as a fighter.

Xiaonan Yan picked up a big win over Mackenzie Dern at UFC Vegas 61.

Yan (16-3-0) is coming off arguably the biggest win of her career after defeating Mackenzie Dern almost two weeks ago in the main event of UFC Vegas 61. The 33-year-old successfully rebounded from a pair of losses to Marina Rodriguez & Carla Esparza. During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Yan credited her move to the USA to train at Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male gym for the improvements in her game.

Everybody treated me very well at Team Alpha Male. I feel it’s my home in the United States. And the second thing is, I learned a lot about how to mix up striking, wrestling, and grappling together in MMA from Team Alpha Male. So I learned a lot of knowledge from the team, from the culture. So that’s why I think it’s a right team for me.” she said during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour.

The top-ten ranked strawweight went on to add that although she is enjoying working on herself as a fighter, she does miss her family back home in China.

I miss my family over there [in China], but my dad was here this time and that made me happy and it made me feel easier. But I still miss my mom and my three dogs at home.

Yan owns notable promotional victories over the likes of Angela Hill, Karolina Kowalkieicz and Claudia Gadelha. She is currently ranked at number five in the UFC’s official strawweight contender rankings.
