Alexa Grasso has opened up about the pressure she felt after being branded the ‘Mexican Ronda Rousey’ by Dana White.

Alexa Grasso is coming off a dominant victory against Viviane Araujo.

Grasso appeared on The MMA Hour earlier this week and opened up about how she felt when she first signed with the UFC back in 2016 after being referred to by Dana White as the ‘Mexican Ronda Rousey’.

Yes, of course [it put pressure on me]. I think I also was young. You know when you’re younger you think different. So yeah I tried to do my best, I was putting a lot of pressure on myself. But I think the pressure also helped me.” she said.

I tried to not let the good things go to [my] head. I also have a lot of good people around me that help me to be in the best I can be ever. So no, I’ve always been normal. I just felt like [at one point] I had a lot of pressure on myself, but that’s all.” she continued.

Since moving up to the flyweight division, Grasso has gone 4-0-0 and is on the cusp of a UFC flyweight title shot against reigning champ Valentina Shevchenko. The 29-year-old credits the pressure for her recent success.

The pressure [helped me a lot]. I also started to work with a mental coach that helped me so much. She’s helping me [ a lot]. I think that mental preparation and mental training is important. It helps me so much and I also guess that thinking just about me, you know, do the things for me.” she explained.

Grasso is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over Viviane Araujo at this past Saturday’s UFC Vegas 61 event. She has picked up additional victories over Maycee Barber, Joanne Wood and Ji Yeon Kim en route to her undefeated run at 125-pounds.
