Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for a night of high-octane action because UFC Vegas 73 is here, and it’s a special night for women’s MMA! Headlined by a strawweight showdown between Angela Hill and Mackenzie Dern, this card is stacked with some of the best female fighters in the world.
Dern is ranked #8 in the UFC’s official strawweight rankings with a record of 12-3 and is coming off a majority decision loss to Yan Xiaonan. On the other hand, Hill is ranked #14 with a record of 15-12 and has been subject to lots of controversial decision losses in her career but has finally turned the tide with a two-fight win streak, including decisions over Loopy Godinez and Emily Ducote. Will Hill continue her streak, or will Dern bounce back and add another win to her record?
The main card also features a 120-pound catchweight fight between Emily Ducote (12-7) and Loopy Godinez (9-3). Ducote is coming off a lopsided decision loss to Hill but has beaten Jessica Penne in her UFC debut. Meanwhile, Godinez is 3-1 in her last four fights, coming off a decision victory over Cynthia Calvillo. With Godinez motivated by fellow-Mexican Alexa Grasso’s recent upset of Valentina Shevchenko to capture the UFC flyweight title, this fight promises to be a barn-burner.
The prelims are stacked with two exciting women’s fights. Karolina Kowalkiewicz (14-7), a former title challenger, is riding high on a two-fight win streak with a submission of Felice Herrig and a dominant decision against Silvana Gomez Juarez. She’s looking to make another title run and will face off against Vanessa Demopoulos (9-4), who has won three in a row and hopes to pick up the biggest win of her career to date.
And in the other prelim, Natalia Silva (14-5), the highly touted prospect at flyweight who won WMMA Rankings’ newcomer of the year award for 2022, is 2-0 in UFC and coming off a spectacular third-round spinning back kick KO of Tereza Bleda. Meanwhile, Victoria Leonardo (9-4), nicknamed “Fury,” finally picked up her first UFC win last July with a decision against Mandy Bohm after going 0-2 in the promotion.
With so many exciting fighters on the card, UFC Vegas 73 is a can’t-miss event for fans of women’s MMA. Tune in to ESPN+ this Saturday, May 20th at 4:00 PM ET/1:00 PM PT for all the action!
