UFC president Dana White reveals Weili Zhang’s next strawweight title defense will take place in Asia

UFC president Dana White has revealed that Weili Zhang’s next strawweight title defense will take place from Asia.

Weili Zhang is the reigning UFC strawweight champion of the world.

Zhang (21-1-0) has not been in action since the UFC 248 pay-per-view event in March 2020 when she successfully defended her UFC strawweight championship against Joanna Jedrzejczyk. During a recent chat with Brett Okamoto of ESPN, White revealed that Weili Zhang will defend her belt later this year against either Rose Namajunas or Carla Esparza. He also revealed that the fight will take place in Asia.

“We’re working on her [Weili Zhang] too. Obviously, the fight that everyone wants to see is her and Rose. Hopefully, we can get that done. If not, the next one in line would probably be Carla Esparza. We’re looking at doing that fight this year and in Asia,” Dana White said.

31-year-old Zhang became the first Chinese fighter to become a UFC champion when she knocked out Jessica Andrade in August 2019 to capture the strawweight title. Also known as ‘Magnum’, Zhang has not been defeated since her professional debut back in 2013.
