An important flyweight fight features on Saturday’s UFC Vegas 65 event when top-fifteen-ranked contenders Jennifer Maia and Maryna Moroz collide.

Eight-ranked Jennifer Maia takes on number-fifteen Maryna Moroz.

Maia is currently ranked number eight in the UFC’s flyweight rankings. A former Invicta FC champion who once went five rounds with the UFC champ Valentina Shevchenko, Maia is looking to get back on track following losses to top-two ranked contenders Manon Fiorot and Katlyn Chookagian.

Moroz has gone 3-0 since moving up to the 125-pound division and is currently ranked number fifteen. With a victory on Saturday, Moroz will likely jump into the top ten and be that much closer to a title opportunity.

Ahead of the big fight, WMMA Rankings has teamed up with four members of UFC’s flyweight roster.

These fierce and highly-skilled fighters all have their sights on someday claiming the world title, and that means also eyeing up all the other contenders. This week they make their official pick on who they believe wins the top-fifteen flyweight clash.

“I’m picking Maia to win based on her experience and ground game.”

Gonna be a tough fight for sure. It will come down to Maia’s size/strength advantage and fight IQ. She’s a veteran and has a lot of experience. If she closes the distance and makes it a clinch/grappling fight, she should cruise to a decision, maybe even a finish on the ground late. I was scheduled to fight Moroz earlier this year, so I watched a lot of film. She’s got crisp boxing and she’s very fast, she’s got cardio for days. If she keeps it a boxing match she’ll take the W. My final call is still Maia by decision, but Moroz can make that difficult for Jennifer. I’d keep this fight off my parlay.

I will say Jennifer Maia will take the decision victory. She’s tough with her boxing and in the clinch.

I certainly have Maryna in this fight. She is a very talented athlete. I was afforded the opportunity to get to train with her leading up to this fight and she is very strong and ready.”

UFC Vegas 65 takes place on Saturday, November 19, 2022, from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The preliminary card, featuring Maia vs. Moroz, will be aired live on ESPN+ from 1 pm ET.
