Newly crowned UFC bantamweight champion Julianna Peña would love the opportunity to one day face UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey.
Peña shocked the world at the recent UFC 269 event, submitting Amanda Nunes to capture the UFC bantamweight championship. The 32-year-old is expected to rematch Nunes at some point later this year, although a date has not yet been confirmed.
During a recent chat with The New York Post, Peña expressed how she’d like to see Ronda Rousey return to the UFC.
“It would be amazing to pull Ronda Rousey back out of retirement. It would be great to have her come back to UFC and fight again.” she said.
Back in 2013, Ronda Rousey coached The Ultimate Fighter opposite Miesha Tate. In the battle of Team Rousey vs. Team Tate, it was Julianna Peña who emerged victorious and picked up the win for her friend Miesha Tate.
Peña detailed the bad experiences she had with Ronda Rousey whilst filming the show.
“We’re not friends. We don’t speak. She really had a tough time getting along with me on The Ultimate Fighter. She didn’t like me at all because I was friends with Miesha Tate. She wasn’t the nicest.” she explained.
“I don’t know that she’ll recall this because she ended up getting taken out by her entire team. But when we won ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and got out of the house, she told me that, ‘You’re gonna give me a tougher fight than Miesha Tate Tate, but when that day comes I’m still gonna kick your ass.‘” she continued.
