UFC announcer Bruce Buffer has spoken out about the respect he has for former UFC bantamweight champion, Holly Holm.
Holm (11-4-0) unsuccessfully challenged Cris Cyborg for the featherweight title at last night’s UFC 219 event, losing a unanimous decision. Despite the loss, social media has been full of praise for Holm, as she becomes the first woman in history to have shown the ability to be able to compete with Cyborg, and the only woman to have ever taken her to a fifth round.
Buffer spoke about Holm in a post on his Instagram page:
Holly Holm is a true Warrior both in “Victory & Defeat”. Words cannot describe my respect and fandom for her, I feel so honored to call her my friend. She is a true example of “To Be Great Is To Be Humble”
Cyborg vs. Holm was awarded the “Fight of the Night” bonus, both women pocketing an extra $50,000.
UFC 219 takes place on December 30 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The main card will be aired live on pay-per-view from 10pm ET.
