UFC 242 medical suspensions: Joanne Calderwood potentially out for six months

Top flyweight contender Joanne Calderwood can potentially be facing a lengthy layoff following her big win at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi.

In the featured ESPN Prelim, “JoJo” scored an important victory when she handed Andrea Lee her first UFC defeat via split-decision.

Also on the Prelims, Sarah Moras picked up a critical win by defeating Octagon newcomer Liana Jojua via third round TKO. The fight was the last one on Moras’ current contract.

After the event, the commission released the following medical suspensions:

  • Liana Jojua: 60 days for TKO
  • Sarah Moras: 30 days mandatory rest
  • Andrea Lee: 30 days mandatory rest
  • Joanne Calderwood: 180 days for nasal injury; can be cleared by doctor earlier

  1. I sure hope she doesn’t get the full six [ahem]. ‘Cos as much as I think it’ll be a complete mismatch, she looks to be the only person that can fight V-Shev before the year’s end, unless they actually take K-Chook off the Maia fight they way they did with Carmouche already. Otherwise all those goofbirds chirping about Weili fighting her will just get louder and louder, and I really need all that talk to dieā€¦

    1. I would have no problem with them replacing Blonde Fighter with Calderwood versus Maia. It would make no sense for JoJo to face Val after losing to Chookagian while Katlyn had to take another fight! Calderwood vs. Maia could be a no. 1 contender fight and Shev vs. Chookagian can take place in Nov/Dec!
