Number-ten ranked UFC strawweight contender Virna Jandiroba is gearing up for an early 2023 return to the cage.
Jandiroba (18-3-0) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Angela Hill at the UFC Vegas 54 event this past May. During the first-round of the fight, she injured her knee. Although Jandiroba continued and ultimately won the fight, she has been out of action ever since.
The Brazilian opened up during a recent chat with WMMA Rankings.
“That fight was very important and expanded me a lot. I tore my meniscus at the end of the first round, I felt the snap and felt my knee wobbly. Having the coldness and determination to continue the fight was a great triumph.” Jandiroba said.
Jandiroba, a former Invicta FC champion at 115-pounds, expects to return to the cage in early 2023 and revealed she is eyeing a bout against Michelle Waterson-Gomez.
“I want to recover by the end of 2022, beginning of 2023. I want to do 3 or 4 fights next year. I’m in the top 10 right now, I hope to face a top 10. Michelle Waterson [Gomez], would be good.” she said.
Waterson-Gomez is currently ranked just outside of the top ten at number eleven in UFC’s official strawweight contender rankings.
