UFC flyweight contender Manon Fiorot is confident she is the fighter who will dethrone Valentina Shevchenko as the 125-pound champion.
Fiorot (9-1-0) returns to the cage at the UFC 280 event on October 22 when she takes on number-one ranked flyweight contender Katlyn Chookagian. A victory for the french-woman would almost certainly cement her spot as next in line for a shot at Shevchenko. The 32-year-old believes her power and strength will be too difficult for the longtime champ to handle.
“For now I’m very focused on Katlyn and we’ll take the fight step by step. But if I have to talk about the future and the fight against Valentina, I think 5 rounds is better for me because I know I have great conditioning. I think I am more powerful and [have] more strength and technically, I think it’s the same thing.” Fiorot said during a recent chat with Sportskeeda.
Shevchenko captured the UFC flyweight championship in December 2018 after defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk. She has since gone on to defend it a total of seven times, taking out the likes of Jessica Andrade, Taila Santos, Katilyn Chookagian, Liz Carmouche and Lauren Murphy.
Fiorot has gone 4-0 since signing with the UFC. She owns notable knockout wins over Victoria Leonardo and Tabatha Ricci, as well as a decision victory against former title challenger Jennifer Maia.
UFC 280, featuring Manon Fiorot, takes place on October 22, 2022, from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The main card will be aired live on pay-per-view.
