Details have emerged as to why Nicco Montano was forced to pull out of a scheduled UFC Vegas 18 bout against Karol Rosa.
Montano (4-3-0) was scheduled to take on Karol Rosa at the UFC Vegas 18 event on February 6th. News broke on Tuesday night that she had been forced to pull out and will be replaced by Joselyne Edwards. More details have now surfaced on why the former UFC flyweight champ was forced to pull out of the bout.
According to MMA Fighting, Montano was pulled from the fight by a neurologist as part of a pre-fight medical test. The 32-year-old is said to have suffered injuries from a horrific car accident earlier this year after she was rear-ended by another driver. During the medical tests, Montano was still having eye-tracking issues as a result of a concussion from the car accident and was thus removed from the upcoming card. She will be side-lined for an additional 12 weeks before she is allowed to fight again.
Montano was last in action in July 2019 when she lost a unanimous decision to Julianna Pena. She has only fought one other fight in the UFC, The Ultimate Fighter 26 finale match in which she defeated Roxanne Modafferi to capture the flyweight title. The belt was later vacated after she was unable to defend it against Valentina Shevchenko.
WMMA Rankings wishes Nicco Montano a speedy recovery and hope to see her back in the octagon soon.
