Rose Namajunas has given her prediction for the upcoming UFC strawweight championship clash between Carla Esparza & Zhang Weili.
Namajunas lost the UFC strawweight championship to Carla Esparza by way of a split decision this past May. Now Esparza will put her belt on the line at next week’s UFC 281 event against Zhang Weili, a woman Namajunas has already fought and beaten twice.
During a recent chat with MMA Junkie, Namajunas talked about how she sees the fight between her former opponents going down.
“I think a lot of people are definitely sleeping on Carla. I think people are just going to assume that Weili’s gonna run her over and all this stuff, and rightfully so. I mean, Weili is obviously a machine, and she is a beast. … She definitely represented a very scary opponent that I was facing.” she said.
“I’m definitely leaning more toward Weili at this point, but it’s really hard for me to necessarily count Carla out. I hope that the fight isn’t anything like my fight with Carla last time. There’s either a chance that it will be kind of similar to that, like kind of boring where they’re both just point fighting. Or one person gets the other person to come out of their game plan in a devastating fashion and maybe finishes the other person. I’m hoping for it to be an exciting fight, though.” she continued.
Namajunas is the subject of a new documentary movie titled ‘Thug Rose: Mixed Martial Artist’. The documentary premiered last week at the Austin Film Festival and will be released globally on UFC Fight Pass this upcoming Wednesday.
The UFC 281 event, co-headlined by Esparza VS Weili, takes place on November 12, 2022, from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States.
