Raquel Pennington releases statement about UFC 246 loss to Holly Holm: “I wanted to fight not be hugged the whole time”

UFC bantamweight Raquel Pennington has finally spoken out about her loss to Holly Holm at the ‘UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cowboy’ event this past Saturday night.

On Saturday night, Pennington was unsuccessful in her bid to avenge a 2015 loss to Holly Holm.

Pennington (10-8-0) was unsuccessful in her attempt to avenge a 2015 split decision loss to Holm, once again losing, this time by way of a unanimous decision.

Almost 24 hours after the crushing blow, the 31-year-old has taken to her social media pages to reflect. She is unhappy with Holm’s clinch heavy attack ‘after waiting 5 years’ for the rematch.

Well it was not the fight I wanted after waiting 5 years. I wanted to fight not be hugged the whole time but that’s the fight game for you. Regardless I’m always thankful for my team, coaches, fiancée, family, friends, and true fans.” Pennington wrote in a statement to fans.

Also known as ‘Rocky’, Pennington has now lost three of her last four, with the one victory coming by way of a split decision to Irene Aldana. However, it should be noted that all of Pennington’s recent losses come to current or former UFC champions in Amanda Nunes, Germaine de Randamie and of course, Holly Holm.

  1. Yeah. A pairing I had no real interest in upon announcement ended up being even less entertaining than the dangerously low bar I’d set for it mentally. Big ol’ snoozer.

    1. Too bad for Raquel Pennington, but wrestling and clinching is part of MMA. So the fault totally with Raquel Pennington for not having a fight plan to counter the clinching. What’s wrong with these MMA fighters who don’t like this or that fighting style of their opponents? Hypocrite fans, who don’t like this, that, and the other fighting styles are one thing, but fans are fans, always liking and not liking something. But fans don’t have to get in the MMA cage. The fighters, however, have to go into their fights preparing for everything from their opponents. So next time Raquel Pennington needs to be fully prepared for everything so she can have a fight plan to counter it and execute the fight plan she wishes to execute.

  2. Holly could not put away a shorter girl with short arms and short legs and who suffered a horrible leg injury 2 years ago so her motion is limited. I am very sour on Holly because she has bad luck and she divorced her husband who seem like a really sweet guy just so she could go on a Instagram thot attack and and from what rumors have it burning a lot of coal with guys at the gym… I’m glad she destroyed Ronda Rousey but her fights since then have been either disappointing or stinker snoozefests

    1. You are pathetic, you shouldn’t talk about people’s personal life when you know nothing about it. Watch how you talk about women, idiot.

  3. I really dont understand why people have had some a problem with this win. Sure, she played it safe but HH did what she needed to get a win when it was crucial that she got one. I like Rocky but if she does not want to clinch it is up to her to get out of there. Holly was simply the better/smarter/stronger fighter. Plus, Raquel initiated the clinch several times times in the second and third rounds. Holly was just able to reverse position.

  4. Well, don’t get clinched or get out of those clinches. If Holly imposes her will upon you and controls how the fight goes she’s just better.
