POLL: Who deserves the next shot at Valentina Shevchenko’s UFC flyweight title?

Valentina Shevchenko successfully made the third defense of her flyweight title at Saturday night’s UFC 247 event, defeating Katlyn Chookagian by way of a third-round TKO.

Shevchenko defeated Chookagian via third-round TKO at UFC 247.

At the post-fight press conference, Shevchenko said she doesn’t want to be waiting around and wants to fight again as soon as possible. She revealed she is willing to fight any of Joanne Calderwood (14-4-0), Jennifer Maia (17-6-1) or Roxanne Modafferi (24-16-0) next.

Who do you think deserves the next crack at Shevchenko’s UFC flyweight title? Have your say in our Twitter poll below.

  1. Absolutely NOT Maia. Between coming off a loss AND the weight misses she’s all the way ineligible. I say put Calderwood in next, ‘cos she’s been on the bench a while already, bench Modafferi for a bit (or give her Davis if she’s restless; dunno how they’ve never fought already over the years), then pair up Eye-Murphy, Chookagian-Araújo and Maia-Lee in the meantime. JoJo and V-Shev can go on UFC 250, easy.

    1. yeah, Roxanne vs Murphy or Davis. It’s crazy that neither fight has ever happened and that Murphy vs Davis has never happened. I think Araujo needs someone a little lower right now after losing to Eye.

        1. They’re team mates and training partners at the same gym. At a push they could maybe be coaxed into fighting if one of them already HAD the title, but it’s unlikely they’d agree under any other circumstances.

          1. Their coach recently replied to a comment on IG too stating that they wouldn’t fight each other if offered

  2. Unless they slip up before she fights them she’ll probably fight all three of them within the next year or so. The best, or at least most intriguing fight they could make at 125 is Valentina vs Ilima-Lei MacFarlane, the Bellator champ. Won’t happen of course because Dana wouldn’t allow it, but it would be a fun fight to make.

    1. I definitely do not have Maia in the conversation given her recent weight misses. IMO, Katlyn is the second best flyweight in the division. She’s the closest I had to someone giving Val a competitive fight and we all saw how that turned out.

  3. Roxy. She’s got a good chin, a brutal ground game, and her strength is over 9000. She’s also hitting with power if you haven’t noticed.

  4. Given that a fight between Roxy and Jojo cannot happen, I have to go with Roxy, as her style gives her more potential to make the fight interesting. Plus, she has a long history of beating the odds. I still think that Valentina is too big of an obstacle even for her, but you never know. Jojo wouldn’t stand a chance instead, IMHO.
