Lina Lansberg got a late start in MMA. Her first fight in 2012 in her home country, Sweden, came at the age of 31. However, she has been a fixture of the Muay Thai world since 2006, where she has won and placed in numerous Muay Thai championships.  In the MMA world she holds a record of eight wins and four losses, ranking number 13 in Women’s UFC Bantamweight division, with wins over Lucie Pudilova and Gina Mazany.

Tonya Evinger has only had two UFC fights, both losses, but with a record of 19-7-1 her name is etched in the annals of WMMA legendary.  She won the vacant Invicta Bantamweight Belt against Irene Aldana and defended the belt twice; once against Colleen Schneider and another against Yana Kunitskaya (their first meeting resulted in a no contest due to referee error).  She also beat TUF alumni Pannie Kianzad in what would have been a title defense but Kianzad failed to make weight.

Both women fought Cris Cyborg in their first UFC fight, and both were TKO’d, though Evinger managed to spit nails until the third round.  Both women also fought Aspen Ladd and were TKO’d before the third round. Though Lansberg has more wins in the UFC cage, she also has more fights, and her wins were more from just controlling the other fighter, rather than any substantial victory.

If the old Tonya shows up, fans will be in for what Evinger calls “Filthy Fighting.” Its this old school, street mentality mixed with martial arts.  Perhaps this hasn’t translated well in the UFC, or perhaps Evinger just got the short straw when drawing two fierce opponents. Besides overcoming wear and tear from age, she’ll also have to avoid getting pinned against the cage and pelted with knees and elbows from the Elbow Queen.

Either way, break out your “Eye of the Tiger” record and your Karate Kid bandanas, cuz these ladies from the Eighties are going to throw down an old school ass whipping this Saturday night!
