Miranda Maverick has explained why she has been gunning for a fight against fellow UFC flyweight contender Molly McCann.

Miranda Maverick put on a showcase at UFC Vegas 64 this past Saturday.

Maverick (11-4-0) dominated Shanna Young at this past Saturday’s UFC Vegas 64 event en route to a unanimous decision victory. Following the win, Maverick took to the microphone to call out Molly McCann.

During the UFC Vegas 64 post-fight press conference, Maverick explained exactly why she wants to fight Molly McCann. She believes McCann has not fought a high enough level of opposition to be considered one of the top fifteen best female flyweight fighters in the world and wants that spot for herself.

I’ve called out Molly McCann three, four, five times, even before she had clout. Now that she does have the so called clout, through Paddy, and through her own finishes against [women] who I see as not being as skilled of fighters as she should have to fight to get in the top-fifteen. I’m ready to take that little title away from her. How she’s in the top fifteen and I’m not…” Maverick said.

The 25-year-old lost her own top fifteen ranking due to a split decision loss to the now number-eleven ranked Maycee Barber back in July 2021. The result was a controversial one, with many feeling like Maverick should have been declared the winner.

Before I was respectful about the loss to Maycee Barber, what I think was a robbery. And it seems like the media forgets that kind of thing, the public forgets that kind of thing. It’s just a loss on my record. I think I won that fight and she’s standing exactly where I should be. I’m ready to get back up there in the top fifteen, taking the spot that is mine.” she explained.

If Maverick is to get her fight against Molly McCann, she will have to wait. McCann returns to the cage at this Saturday’s UFC 281 event when she takes on Erin Blanchfield. McCann is currently ranked number-fifteen in the UFC’s flyweight contender rankings, whilst Blanchfield is ranked at number-twelve.

UFC 281 takes place this Saturday November 12, 2022, from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States.
