Mikaela Mayer is bewildered following a split decision loss to Alycia Baumgardner at the O2 arena on Saturday night.

Mikaela Mayer suffered the first loss of her career on Saturday night.

Mayer (17-1-0) suffered the first loss of her entire boxing career on Saturday night, losing out on the scorecards by way of a razor-close split decision. Fans on social media have been divided on who they think truly won, and Mayer herself just can’t believe it.

I’m really confident that I won that fight. She was defeated. I saw it in her eyes. She was tired. She knows she lost the fight. She was shocked by the decision. She got lucky. I think the crowd believes that I won that fight. I took control of the fight from the second round on, for sure. At the very least, I won seven rounds clearly. I felt like I had it. I hope that she gives me a rematch. I think I deserve it, and I feel that the fans wants to see it,” Mayer told Boxing Scene.

Following the fight, Baumgardner revealed she has no intention of giving Mayer a rematch and instead wants to fight Hyun Mi Choi in an attempt to become women’s boxing undisputed super featherweight champion of the world.

The ‘Shields vs. Marshall’ event, co-headlined by Mayer vs. Baumgardner, took place on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from the O2 Arena in London, England.
