Maycee Barber interested in facing Paige VanZant at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in January?

It looks like Maycee “The Future” Barber is interested in returning in the near future. 

The unbeaten prospect garnered a lot of attention with an impressive second-round TKO over Hannah Cifers in her UFC debut in Denver. Post-fight, Barber called our Mackenzie Dern However, per a recent Instagram post, it looks like Barber may have someone else in her crosshairs.

Barber asked her fans on social media who would like to see her back in action on January 19th in Brooklyn.

Should the fight come to fruition, Barber, who debuted at strawweight, would move up to 125-pounds to face the returning VanZant.

PVZ was originally scheduled to meet Rachael Ostovich on UFC’s ESPN debut card. Personal issues have since forced Ostovich out of the bout and the promotion has yet to name a replacement.

  1. Ah, but the question is, “Does PVZ want Maycee?” If Maycee is so eager to take on a competitive fight, how about Weili Zhang? As Weili has fought at both 115 and 125, I’m sure she’d be happy to take her on at whatever weight Maycee wanted. And given that Weili fought 7 times in 2017, not including her kickboxing fights, I’m pretty sure that a January turnaround time would be fine with her as well.

    1. I think Maycee wanted a big name and maybe also “easy pickings” :). Only the truly hardcore like you and me have heard of Zhang. Maycee’s probably never heard of her.
