Mariya Agapova has gotten her wish.
Agapova (9-1) will face Shana “Danger” Dobson (3-4) on August 22.
Kazakhstan’s Agapova made a big impact in her promotional debut at UFC Vegas 2– finishing Hannah Cifers in the first round of their flyweight matchup and winning a $50k ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for her efforts. Prior to signing with the UFC, Agapova rebounded from a loss on the Contender Series with two straight first round finishes in Invicta.
Dobson entered the UFC after competing on TUF 26, scoring a TKO win over Ariel Beck in her first official appearance in 2017. She currently rides a three-fight skid with losses to Lauren Mueller, Sabina Mazo and Priscila Cachoeira.
Anybody have any idea why Mariya called out unranked Shana, who happens to be on a 3 fight losing streak? You’d think that she would want to try and move up the rankings.
Apparently they were paired up before and the fight got cancelled… so Mariya wanted to pick back up on that match-up. Worst idea she’s ever had, IMO. Another unranked opponent, slow build, fine — but Shana? Yikes. 🙂
Should’ve called out poliana botelho. That’s a fight right there. Her vs kgb might be fun.
She’s good, but she’s not ready for Botelho or KGB yet, especially KGB.
