Marina Rodriguez has called for a rematch against former UFC strawweight champ Carla Esparza.
Carla Esparza lost the UFC strawweight championship to Zhang Weili at last night’s UFC 281 event after finding herself victim of a second-round submission. Following the fight, Rodriguez took to her social media pages to issue an official call-out.
“Ok, I told you, I’m next!👀😅 If @rosenamajunas isn’t ready yet, let’s do it @CarlaEsparza1 ! 👊🏻 Take your time, and next year we will be ready to make this match! What do you think? If you want, I let you use my walking song again, no problem! 🤝 #ufc281 @ufc.” she said.
Both women have a history together after previously fighting in July 2020, with Esparza emerging victorious by way of a split decision. Rodriguez has been looking to avenge the loss for a long time and hopes she’ll finally receive the opportunity to do so early next year. The 35-year-old is coming off a third-round knockout defeat to Amanda Lemos, before the loss she was riding high on a four-fight win streak.
