Surging UFC flyweight contender Manon Fiorot believes she has the ability to give Valentina Shevchenko trouble in the striking department.
Fiorot (10-1-0) defeated Katlyn Chookagian via unanimous decision at this past Saturday’s UFC 280 event. The victory is a huge one for Fiorot, especially considering the fact Chookagian was ranked the number-one contender at flyweight leading into the fight.
With Shevchenko fast cleaning out the 125-pound division, talk has turned to a potential title fight between her and Fiorot. On Monday, during an appearance on The MMA Hour, Fiorot expressed that after watching Shevchenko’s fight against Chookagian, she believes she has the striking ability to defeat the long-time champ.
“I saw Valentina fight against Kaitlyn and she didn’t strike against her, she only used her wrestling and her judo throws. I think I can do a very good stand-up fight against her. I think I have the wrestling defense and offense to improve and and to show I can win against Valentina.” she explained.
During the UFC 280 post-fight press conference on Saturday, Fiorot said she would ideally like one more fight before going on to challenge Shevchenko for the belt.
