Katlyn Chookagian vs. Jennifer Maia booked for UFC 244

A potential flyweight title eliminator has been added to the upcoming UFC 244 pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York.

First reported by Newsday, Katlyn Chookagian (12-2) is slated to face former Invicta FC flyweight champion Jennifer Maia (17-5-1).

Despite lobbying for a title shot versus flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko, the UFC offered Chookagian the Maia matchup. In the UFC, Blonde Fighter boasts victories over Lauren Murphy, Irene Aldana, Mara Romero Borella, Alexis Davis and Joanne Calderwood.

Maia lost her UFC debut to the most recent flyweight title challenger Liz Carmouche but bounced back with consecutive wins over Alexis Davis and Roxanne Modafferi.

  1. Given that Valentina has indicated that she would like to defend her title up to 2 more this year, and given that there are so few top contenders, I’m surprised that the UFC is having the top two in an elimination bout. Now one of them is going to have to go to the back on the top contender line.
