Katlyn Chookagian suffered a major setback at this Saturday’s UFC 280 event after losing a unanimous decision to Manon Fiorot.

Chookagian lost her number-one ranking at Saturday’s UFC 280 event.

Chookagian (18-5-0) has long been considered the best active flyweight fighter in the world, other than Valentina Shevchenko. On Saturday, she lost that position after losing a unanimous decision to the French woman in Manon Fiorot.

Following the defeat, Chookagian took to her Instagram page to reflect in an emotional post-fight statement.

I keep thinking my phones not working… but it’s true when you win, the amount of texts and support is insane but when you come up short in one of the biggest moments of your life it is complete silence. In defeat and hard times when it’s not so glamorous is when you’ll see who is really there for you. I am so grateful for the love that does fill me and to be able to live a healthy life ❤️ the show must go on 🤘🏽.” she wrote.

The ‘Blonde Fighter’ is still without a doubt one of the best female 125-pound fighters on the planet. The 33-year-old owns victories over a long list of contenders including Jennifer Maia, Viviane Araujo, Cynthia Calvillo, Joanne Wood, and Amanda Ribas.

UFC 280 took place on Saturday October 22, 2022, from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
