Joanna Jedrzejczyk talks UFC strawweight champ Zhang Weili, confident she can take the belt from her

Joanna Jedrzejczyk has her sights set on recapturing the UFC strawweight title and is confident she can get the job done against the reigning champion, Zhang Weili.

Jedrzejczyk (16-3) says she was not surprised by Zhang’s first-round knockout defeat of Jessica Andrade to claim the belt. The 32-year-old discussed this past August’s upset during a recent chat with MMA News.

She made it. I was very impressed. Actually, the day before her fight [with Andrade], I said that she was going to win, that she was going to surprise, and she did. But I can see some gaps, I can see good and bad sides [of her game].” she said.

Although Jedrzejczyk is impressed with Weili, she is very confident she can take the belt from her when the two meet.

She’s explosive, her punches are juicy, crispy, she has knockout power behind her punches,” she said. “She’s young, she’s hungry. But I know I’m better. I’m the more well-rounded fighter.

Fight fans, would you like to see Jedrzejczyk challenge Weili Zhang for the UFC strawweight title? Who do you think would win? Let us know in the comments section below.

  1. Yes, JOANNA can get this belt, Weilli Is good but not perfect,i saw Some thing wrongin Is way of fight.Joanna Is a better fighter, and She Will prove it. Let’s go JJ ♥️.dont worry,Andrade and Rose Will Côme back too.Weilli your that champ, but maybe not for long.i love the Strawheight Division for WOMEN,so Much good Fighters♥️🤙

    1. Sure she can, but highly unlikely, especially if they fight in China, as JJ has offered to do. Take a look at Weili’s fights with Jessica and Jessica that were fought in China where she had her corner with her. Compare Weili’s fight with Andrade and JJ’s fight with Andrade. JJ dominated her while Weili annihilated her.

    1. I think it was more the gaps she saw in the fights that went the distance like Tecia Torres and current Invicta strawweight Danielle Taylor. I know it could have been UFC jitters, and Taylor is tough, but that she couldn’t put away Danielle Taylor is interesting.

      1. I think it more than just usual UFC jitters. It was her first time fighting in the U.S. as well, and due to visa issues, w/o her corner. Her fight w/Tecia was her 2nd time fighting in the U.S. as well as the UFC , and again w/o her corner. She stated one of the conditions for her fighting in the U.S. is that the UFC assure her there will be no problems with her having her corner there.

  2. I’d surely like to see them fight and I think that will happen next year. I think Weili will win by KO or TKO, but I’d be less certain the longer the fight goes on. What do we know of Weili’s cardio?

  3. This article notably misses Joanna actually saying she’ll beat the shit out of Weili. Talk like that… hmmm, well, Jedrzejczyk ain’t beaten the shit outta anyone in a while, so why *this* would be the time she does is curious to me. I can’t see that point-fight stuff she does working against Zhang, but I’m-a WATCH the shit outta their fight whenever it gets made. 🙂

    1. Certainly hope so. Weili says she’d be ready next week, but somehow, I don’t think we’ll get that. UFC 246 in Vegas on 1/18 sounds good to me. Have they ever had a title fight as a co-Main to a non-title fight (Conor vs Cowboy)? I guess there’s a first for everything.
