Exclusive: UFC flyweight Jennifer Maia reflects on rollercoaster year following victory, defeat, marriage, and learning English
UFC flyweight Jennifer Maia has had quite the year and now has big goals in mind as she approaches 2023.

Maia (20-9-1) tasted both victory and defeat inside the Octagon this year after losing a hard fought decision to number-one ranked flyweight contender Manon Fiorot, but then winning a decision against the surging Maryna Moroz.
Now back in the win column, Maia feels on track and has big ambitions for 2023. The Brazilian opened up about her year during a recent chat with WMMA Rankings.
“I feel like it was a really good year. I didn’t start the way I would have liked, but I finished better, winning!” she said.
“I hope that in a maximum of three months I already have a fight. I want to fight three times [in 2023] and have a new opportunity to fight for the title again.” she continued.

It isn’t just fighting that Maia has had going on this year, she also planned her own wedding and got married to Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu coach Edicarlos Gonzalves. As well as that, the former Invicta FC champ has been learning the English language in an attempt to build her brand amongst international fans.
“This year I organized my wedding, I help take care of my nieces in my free time and I’m learning English. But I dedicate myself 100% to the fight game.” she said.
Fight fans, who would you like to see Maia fight when she returns to the cage in 2023? Does she have what it takes to make another run at the UFC flyweight title? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
