Josiane Nunes has been a standout in the UFC’s 145-pound featherweight division over the last year and has big ambitions for 2023.
Josiane Nunes (9-1-0) made her UFC debut in August of 2021, knocking out Bea Malecki in the very first round following a vicious overhand right. She moved up to the featherweight division this past February, dominating Ramona Pascual for the unanimous decision win.
The 28-year-old returns to the cage at the UFC 283 event on January 21 when she battles Zarah Fairn in a 145-pound contest. Looking to make it 2-0 at featherweight, Josiane’s team believes a victory will lead to a shot at Amanda Nunes and the UFC featherweight championship.
“That’s the plan. She feels well in both weight classes. We are going to get the featherweight belt, and then move back down to bantamweight.” Astra Fight Team told WMMA Rankings.
Also known as ‘Josi’, Josiane has finished seven of her nine career victories by way of brutal knockouts. A statement win in January could most certainly lead to a Nunes vs. Nunes all-Brazilian featherweight title showdown later in the year.
Amanda Nunes has not defended her UFC featherweight championship since March 2021 when she submitted Megan Anderson in the very first round.
