BJJ legend Bia Mesquita (aka Beatriz Mesquita) is plotting a 2023 transition to MMA ahead of her grappling match against UFC star Miesha Tate on December 15.
Mesquita is arguably one of the most accomplished female Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors of all time and earlier this year was inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame.
“I believe my Hall of Fame induction was due to my dedication. I truly believe I have done a lot for the sport, and I am still doing so. Opening doors for the next generation and being part of the revolution in Jiu Jitsu has been a pleasure and a self-fulfilling accomplishment. There are no awards better than those where you have left your legacy.” Mesquita told WMMA Rankings.
On December 15 at the ‘UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3’ event, Mesquita will take part in a very high-profile match when she grapples former UFC bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate. The match will have a lot of MMA and UFC fans eyes on it, and Mesquita plans to fully capitalize.
During a recent chat with WMMA Rankings, Mesquita revealed that she is planning to join the likes of fellow BJJ legend Mackenzie Dern by transitioning over to MMA.
“I believe [Miesha Tate] will be a good fight. She is aggressive and fights forward. I also look for submissions all the time. So I’m pretty sure it will be an amazing show for the fans.” she said.
“Definitely transitioning to MMA is my plan. I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of years and now I feel that I’m ready to do it and take the next step. In 2023, I will be 100% focused on my MMA debut.” she continued.
UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3, featuring Bia Mesquita VS Miesha Tate, takes place on December 15, 2022, from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The event will be aired live on UFC Fight Pass from 8pm EST.
