Dana White’s Contender Series winner Hailey Cowan is eyeing January as a potential month for her UFC debut.
Cowan (7-2-0) defeated Claudia Leitte via split decision on the August 16 edition of Dana White’s Contender Series earlier this year. Despite the close victory, the UFC president acknowledged that Leitte was a huge prospect in her own right, and decided to award Cowan a contract as he feels the 135-pound bantamweight division needs new blood.
On Wednesday, Cowan took to her Instagram page to post a video of her August victory, as well as teasing that she’d like to make her UFC debut in January.
“January is like my 3rd or 4th favorite month… would be really cool to fight in my 3rd or 4th favorite month! #UFC.” she wrote.
Cowan has won seven of her last eight fights, having finished four of them by way of knockouts and submissions. The 30-year-old is certainly a serious prospect to keep an eye on at 135-pounds. In a division which is in desperate need of some new blood to rise up the ranks, Cowan is looking to present just that.
The UFC currently has two events announced for January. A fight night event from the UFC APEX on January 14, as well as the UFC 283 pay-per-view event in Brazil on January 21.
