Bellator contender Cat Zingano has teased an impending featherweight championship clash against Cris Cyborg.
Zingano (13-4-0) has enjoyed a lot of success since departing the UFC and moving up to 145-pounds to fight for Bellator. The 40-year-old is currently 3-0 with the promotion and is the number-one ranked contender in the organization’s featherweight rankings.
Fans have been clamoring for a championship showdown between reigning titleholder Cris Cyborg and Zingano, and it appears this may finally be in the works. On Thursday evening, Zingano took to her Twitter page to post the big news.
Cyborg (26-2-0, 1 NC) captured the Bellator featherweight title in January 2020 after knocking out longtime champ Julia Budd. She has since gone on to defend it four times, defeating the likes of Arlene Blencowe, Leslie Smith and Sinead Kavanagh. The 37-year-old made her pro boxing debut this past September, picking up the unanimous decision win against Simone da Silva.
