Carla Esparza is feeling extremely confident leading into her UFC 281 fight against Zhang Weili.
Esparza (19-6-0) will attempt to make the first defense of her UFC strawweight championship this Saturday when she takes on Zhang Weili. Fans have been quick to count out Esparza leading into the fight, however, the champ is not fazed.
Weili has been telling the press that she has zero fear when it comes to this fight, and Esparza fired back during a chat with reporters.
“I think probably a lot of people have felt that about my game, but it doesn’t really matter what she thinks or what she fears. I’m going in there with my best game, and this is probably one of the best camps I’ve had. I’m just ready to go in there the best me and prove the world wrong, I guess.” she said.
“I think overall she has a relatively – I wouldn’t say basic, but there’s nothing super unique. Just her style is she’s very powerful and very strong. … Overall I feel confident going into the fight that I’m not gonna see anything too crazy out of the box.” she continued.
Esparza captured the strawweight championship this past May, defeating Rose Namajunas via split decision. With the victory, ‘The Cookie Monster’ successfully became a two-time UFC strawweight champion.
UFC 281 takes place this Saturday, November 12, 2023, from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States.
