Amanda Nunes is confident she can compete with Germaine de Randamie in the striking department when the two meet at Saturday’s UFC 245 event.
Nunes (18-4-0) will attempt to defend her bantamweight title at Saturday’s event against the Dutch kickboxing specialist in De Randamie, who went 46-0 in sanctioned kickboxing competition before moving to MMA.
The fight will be a rematch from a 2013 encounter in which Nunes earned a first-round ground-and-pound stoppage win. De Randamie said during a recent interview that she believes Nunes won’t want to strike with her on Saturday.
Also known as ‘The Lioness’, Nunes says that whilst initiating the takedown against De Randamie is an option, she is fully confident in her ability to strike with her and states she can ‘already see a lot of holes’.
“I have so many things to do in this fight,” Nunes said. “I just have to take my time. I think what I’m going to wait for is she’s going to make a mistake. I know she’s going to make mistakes. Like the first time. I’m going to capitalize. The takedown for sure is something that I look for. But I don’t know when it’s going to happen.
“I know I’ll be able to strike with her. I know I believe I can knock her out. I know she’s very good what she has with her striking but I already see a lot of holes. We know each other very well. This is my second camp for her and I know I’m going to finish her.”
UFC 245 takes place this Saturday December 14, 2019, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The main card featuring Nunes vs. De Randamie will be aired live on pay-per-view from 10pm EST.
