Amanda Lemos picked up a huge victory in the UFC Vegas 64 main event this past Saturday night, defeating Marina Rodriguez by way of a third-round TKO.
The victory is a huge one for Lemos, especially because Marina Rodriguez had been widely tipped to be next in line for the UFC strawweight championship.
During the UFC Vegas 64 post-fight press conference, Lemos stated that she “surely” believes she is now next in line for a crack at the strawweight championship.
“I mean surely, yeah. I should be the next one to line up. Go back home, rest for a week, go back in the gym, just wait for that opportunity to be the next one for the title.” she said.
The title will be on the line at this Saturday’s UFC 281 event when reigning champion Carla Esparza attempts to defend it against Zhang Weili. Lemos says that she won’t be in attendance to watch the fight as she has to go back to Brazil, however she fully expects Zhang Weili to emerge victorious.
“I do have to go back to Brazil, unfortunately I won’t be able to make it to New York. I have to go back home. But I do believe that Zhang Weili is going to win. She’s a more complete, stronger fighter. Even though Carla Esparza is dangerous, I believe that Zhang Weili is gonna win.” she explained.
With the win over Rodriguez, Lemos is now on a two-fight win streak following a victory over Michelle Waterson-Gomez earlier this year. The Brazilian has gone 7-1 since moving down to the strawweight division with her only defeat coming against Jessica Andrade.
UFC Vegas 64 took place on November 5, 2022, from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
