Alexa Grasso is not in any rush to fight Valentina Shevchenko despite the fact she is the next highest-ranked contender in the flyweight rankings who has yet to face her.
Grasso (15-3-0) improved her flyweight record to 4-0-0 on Saturday night after picking up a dominant unanimous decision victory over Viviane Araujo. Following the big win, talk has turned to who’s next for Valentina Shevchenko, however, Grasso is not in a hurry.
“I don’t know. I faced a big challenge first, 25 minutes fighting. I hope I can do it again. I wish I could have another main event with one of the girls… The ones that are on the top. I would like to test myself again, one more time, 25 minutes, before that.” she said at the UFC Vegas 62 post-fight press conference.
“If I have to go for the belt, I will do it. I will do whatever [Mick] Maynard (UFC matchmaker) says. I trust him. He always puts good challenges on me, so whatever he says. But, of course, I would like to have another main event.” she continued.
The 29-year-old moved up to the flyweight division in August 2020, picking up a unanimous decision over Ji Yeon Kim. She would follow with a decision over Maycee Barber and a submission against Joanne Wood before defeating Araujo on Saturday.
