Alexa Grasso returns to the cage in the main event of this Saturday’s UFC Vegas 62 event when she battles Viviane Araujo.

Alexa Grasso is aware of potential UFC flyweight title opportunity.

Grasso (14-3-0) has gone 3-0 since moving up to the 125-pound flyweight division and now looks to make it four in a row with a big win this Saturday. The 29-year-old is hopeful an impressive performance will lead to a title shot but admits it all depends on how the upcoming Katlyn Chookagian vs. Manon Fiorot fight at UFC 280 goes down.

I hope so. Maybe. Could be. I don’t know. I have no idea what the matchmakers are planning, but they are doing a great job. This was not the main option for the main event – they trusted in us. They are allowing us to do a preview of what could be a title fight because it’s 25 minutes.” she said during the UFC Vegas 62 media day.

There’s another important fight next weekend with Fiorot vs. Chookagian. I think we’re kind of in the semifinals. We’re the four, and the one who makes the best performance I think the champion is going to look at the one who does the best.” she continued.

The UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko has defeated the top four ranked contenders in her division, making Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo the highest-ranked fresh challengers.

I think this is a fight that had to happen. We are similar in the rankings – like one spot. Sometimes she was up, right now I am up. We are pretty similar in stats, we are super close in every area. It’s a nice matchup for both of us.” Grasso said about Araujo.

She’s the toughest opponent I’ve trained for. She moves a lot, she has strong hands and her strongest weapon is her jiu-jitsu. She’s a black belt and I think this is a great challenge for me. I’ve been improving a lot my jiu-jitsu game.” she continued.

UFC Vegas 62 takes place this Saturday October 15, 2022, from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The main card will be aired live on ESPN+ from 7pm ET.
