Aga Niedzwiedz not happy with flyweight champions for “ducking” Valentina Shevchenko, says she is up for the challenge

Invicta FC standout Aga Niedzwiedz is not happy with Jennifer Maia and Nicco Montano for their reluctance to fight against Valentina Shevchenko.

Niedzwiedz says Jennifer Maia and Nicco Montano are not true champions.

Shevchenko (14-3-0) makes her flyweight debut at this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 125 event when she takes on an inexperienced and unranked newcomer with little high-level experience in Priscila Cachoeira. The “Bullet” recently explained that the reason she accepted this fight is because various others turned her down. Invicta FC flyweight champ Jennifer Maia has already publicly admitted she turned down the opportunity to fight Shevchenko. Meanwhile, the reigning UFC flyweight champion, Nicco Montano, has stated that she believes Sijara Eubanks is more deserving than Shevchenko of a shot at her belt.

Niedzwiedz (10-1-0), one of the top flyweight fighters in the world, feels as though Maia and Montano are not true champions as they are “ducking fights”. Take a look at some of the 22-year-old’s comments below.

  1. A number of things come to mind. First, I thought it was the UFC that determines who the champion faces next, not the champion. Secondly, I thought Nicco Montano was injured and that’s why she’s not facing Shevchenko.

I am curious as to why Shevchenko is not facing Sijara Eubanks, who I would think would be the #1 contender. I have heard nothing of her either being offered or turning down the fight. Even Niedzwiedz would have seemed to have been a far more obvious choice for Shevchenko than Priscila Cachoeira. Actually, anyone in the top 10 would seem to have been a more obvious choice than Cachoeira. Nonetheless, I am still looking forward to seeing whether Shevchenko will be more aggressive at a lower weight, regardless of the competition.

I find it baffling that Niedzwiedz would be so clueless about her potential competition.

  2. She just lost to maia and maia was offered Valentina but it was too soon. No one is ducking except pvz. Tbh a rematch with aga vs porto woukd have a different outcome

    1. 2 months between fights too soon? Apparently Angela Lee who fought 6 times in 2016 and Weili Zhang who fought 7 times in 2017 didn’t think so.

  3. Agree with John on the “clueless” comment — I’ve never understood how it is people, WHILE ALREADY ON THE INTERNET, choose to make uninformed comments rather than spending a similarly small amount of time looking something up. Ah, well. [shrug]
