Mariya Agapova was going to make her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night: Smith vs Teixeira on Wednesday, however, multiple sources told WMMA Rankings that Shana Dobson did not accept the fight.
Matchmakers are looking for an opponent for a flyweight fight that would likely happen in June. Alex Davis, Agapova’s manager, said he got her signed with the UFC exactly for UFC Kazakhstan.
“The Kazakhstan event got canceled, but the UFC needs international fighters. I think we will have a fight very shortly for her,” Davis said. “I know that they [matchmakers] want her. She’s a special fighter. Looking at the big picture, the UFC needs to keep its international flavor. It can’t just be, having Americans fight.”
Agapova last bout came in October when she got a first-round TKO over Marilia Santos at Invicta FC 37.
