Zhang Weili looks to make the first defense of the strawweight title when she takes on Joanna Jedrzejczyk at the UFC 248 event on March 7.
Weili (20-1-0) stunned the MMA world this past August by knocking out Jessica Andrade in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 15 to capture the strawweight title.
The 30-year-old, who is on an incredible 20-fight win streak, revealed during a recent interview with the South China Morning Post that she always knew she would one day fight Jedrzejczyk and is fully prepared.
“I have known about Joanna for a very long time, even before I was in the UFC,” Zhang said. “I have been preparing for her, and for this fight, for a long time. I know how she moves and how she fights. I always knew that one day we would meet inside the Octagon. I am preparing everything. I am ready.”
The champ has been training in all areas of MMA as she prepares for Jedrzejczyk, and promises to ‘fight Joanna in Joanna’s way’ come March 7.
“I have been training for speed and for power, working on my footwork,” said Zhang. “I am going to fight Joanna in Joanna’s way. No matter if it is wrestling or striking I am ready. Just like my fight in Shenzhen I will be ready for different situations.”
UFC 248 takes place on Saturday March 7, 2020, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The main card featuring Weili vs. Jedrzejczyk will be aired live on pay-per-view from 10pm EST.
