Yana Kunitskaya: Loss to Cris Cyborg “was all a mental problem”, “I hope to come back as fast as I can”

Yana Kunitskaya is not happy with her performance against Cris Cyborg in this past weekend’s UFC 222 main event.

Kunitskaya believes her loss to Cris Cyborg was the result of a “mental problem”

Kunitskaya (10-4) lost her UFC debut by way of a first-round TKO at the hands of Cyborg, failing to capture the featherweight title. The Russian believes she could have done much better and says nerves got the best of her, she is hoping to return to competition as soon as possible.

That’s why I’m so sad,” Kunitskaya said . “Because I felt I could control the fight at some points, but you saw what happened. Yeah, it was a weird experience, I was so nervous and I hope to come back as fast as I can.

I think I was nervous because I was facing Cris Cyborg, a great fighter that’s not in my weight class. But it was all a mental problem, I will try to fix it and come back stronger.”

The 28-year-old is hoping to move back down to bantamweight for her next fight. She is a former Invicta FC bantamweight champion who owns notable victories over Raquel Pa’aluhi and Cindy Dandois.

  1. Um, i’m not a fan of “adrenaline dump” excuses or “that wasn’t really me in there”. A fighter looks back at the fight and claims they weren’t in the right mind frame. That’s biased thinking because they were overwhelmed by a stronger opponent.
