Rena Kubota VS Andy Nguyen | Sunday 15 October at RIZIN 2017 in Fukuoka | 1am ET, live on PPV

A women’s super atomweight fight will headline next Sunday’s ‘RIZIN 2017 in Fukuoka’ event when Rena Kubota takes on Andy Nguyen. Both women make history as the first females to ever headline a RIZIN FF card.

Rena has yet to taste defeat in 4 MMA fights and 19 Shootboxing fights.

‘RIZIN 2017 in Fukuoka’ will feature the first ever female tournament and they’ve selected the ‘super atomweight’ division (108-pounds). Kubota VS Nguyen’s headlining bout will be a first-round match in the eight-woman tournament.

Kubota (4-0) has a 100% finish rate, dispatching all of her opponents in devestating fashion. Her record includes wins over Jleana Valentino, Miyuu Yamamoto and Hanna Gujwan. In her last showing, she knocked out Hungary’s Dora Perjes in the very first round. The 26-year-old also competes in Shootboxing fights in which she is also undefeated with the perfect 19-0 record.

Nguyen (5-4) made her RIZIN debut last December, submitting the Japanese fan-favorite Miyuu Yamamoto in the very first round. She’ll now look to take out another home-favorite in Kubota. The 35-year-old also actively competes for King of the Cage in which she is a former atomweight world champion. She won the belt in April of 2016, knocking out Elane Santiago in the third round and went on to defend the belt against Cassie Robb and Bi Nguyen. Also known as “The CrAsian”, Nguyen currently trains at the Karate Mafia gym, along with top flyweight contender, Andrea Lee.

Also featured in the tournament:
Alyssa Garcia VS Maria Oliveira
Kanna Asakura VS Sylwia Juskiewicz
Irene Rivera V Miyuu Yamamoto

‘RIZIN FIGHTING WORLD GP 2017: Aki no Jin’, also known as ‘RIZIN 2017 in Fukuoka’ takes place on Sunday 15 October from the Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan. The event will be aired live on pay-per-view from 1am EST.

  1. It’s a pity that not more of the top Asian and part-Asian are participating. Would have been great seeing Ayaka Hamasaki, Seo Hee Ham and Jinh Yu Frey. Maybe even Weili Zhang and Angela Lee could have joined the fray if they could make weight. Now that would be a GRAND Prix.
