What’s next for the women of #UFCRotterdam?

Yesterday, at UFC Fight Night 115 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, bantamweight contender Marion Reneau (8-3-1) met promotional newcomer and short notice replacement for GDR, Talita Bernardo (5-2). Bernardo showed off slick and impressive BJJ skills but the 40-year-old Reneau overcame a close first round to TKO Bernardo with seconds left in the final frame. Taking the fight on less than eight days notice, the Brazilian prospect has nothing to be ashamed of. Post-fight, “The Belizean Bruiser” made it clear that she has her sights set on a top ten opponent.

So, whats next for the women of UFC Fight Night 115?

Of Bernardo’s five career victories, four have come by way of submission. It was evident in the first round of her fight with Reneau that Bernardo knew what she was doing on the ground. While her striking is still developing, with a full camp Bernardo has some exciting matches in the bantamweight division ahead of her. Perhaps a bout with the fighter on the losing end of Ashlee Evans-Smith vs Sarah Moras at UFC 216 will be next. Both Evans-Smith and Moras are gritty wrestlers and a fight with Bernardo could provide an interesting wrestling versus Jiu Jitsu clash.

According to Reneau, “forty is the new twenty” and judging by her most recent octagon performance, it is hard to argue with that. Reneau is one of the more underrated fighters in the bantamweight division. She is well-rounded with strong BJJ and diverse striking. She is calling for a top ten opponent in her next out and her wish can likely be granted. A fight with former title challenger and number ten ranked Alexis Davis is a solid next opponent for “The Belizean Bruiser”. Davis, like Reneau, is well-rounded and a fight between the two will certainly see one of them climb the rankings.
