What’s next for the winning fighters of #UFCChile?

UFC Chile was a card that featured three women’s fights– two of which were on the main card. In the co-main event of the night, TUF 23 winner Tatiana Suarez defeated Alexa Grasso in the first round by rear-naked choke. Former LFA Women’s Flyweight champion Andrea Lee made her UFC debut defeating Veronica Macedo by unanimous decision. Poliana Botelho body kicked her way to a victory over Syuri Kondo in the first round of the fight– scoring the fastest finish in UFC strawweight history.

All three of the fights on the UFC Chile card were fun for different reasons. One submission, one TKO, and one fight that was exciting and ended up going to a decision. All three winners have a ton of potential to be superstars in the sport. But where do they go now? Keep on reading and I’ll tell you!

The TUF 23 winner is only 6 fights into her career but is already being likened to UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov because of her wrestling skills. That is not only a massive compliment to Tatiana Suarez but also something to strive for – to be the women’s version of Khabib Nurmagomedov. Three of Suarez’ 6 wins have come via a submission and this is all due to her fantastic wrestling setting up her sub attempts. It seems once Suarez gets her opponent to the ground it’s a wrap.

But where does Suarez go from here? There’s a highly ranked fighter waiting for a fight. Who? Jessica Andrade. This would throw Suarez into the very deep waters of the Strawweight division but her wrestling is good enough to get her a win against an incredibly tough Andrade. Suarez would need to work on her standup for this fight, since Andrade is one of the most powerful women in MMA. But she’s young, talented and hungry – a win against a top fighter like Andrade would make her an instant title contender. I’m aware Andrade is a reach for Suarez, just saying it would be a good matchup and fun at that!

The former Legacy and LFA Women’s Flyweight champion finally made her debut in the UFC. And it didn’t disappoint! Although the fight against Veronica Macedo went to a decision, Lee showed why the hype around her is real. The UFC rankings came out and they put her in the #12 spot. Not bad for a debut and debut in the UFC rankings.

Now that Lee is officially a UFC fighter and ranked, she will face tougher opposition. Who might be next for the starlet? A lot of the women ranked higher than Lee have fights coming up. So it just depends on what the vision the UFC has for Lee. Do they want her to have 3 fights this year or do they want to take it slow. Lee is personable and marketable so the more fights the better. Plus, she’s always down for a scrap. Ashlee Evans-Smith is without a fight and is ranked one spot higher (11) than Lee. It’s likely both ladies would take the fight as both don’t back down. With a win, Lee and Evans-Smith would most likely move up the rankings given that most of the top ladies in the division will be fighting this summer.

Two fights in the UFC and 2 wins, One win by a devastating body kick that crippled her opponent Syuri Kondo at UFC Chile. Poliana Botelho looks to be a force for the Women’s Strawweight division for years to come.

Although Botelho is un-ranked in the UFC Women’s Strawweight rankings, she has to be on the outside looking in. What better than a fight against well known name who is also waiting for a fight? Angela HillĀ last fought Maryna Moroz to a decision in February. Hill likes to stay active and would be fantastic test for Botelho. With a win, Botelho would surely enter than rankings and start her climb to tougher fights – which she obviously needs. Angela Hill is the perfect fight for Botelho – should she want to take another fight in 2018.
