One of the most popular fighters in the world right now is no doubt RIZIN Fighting Federation superstar, King Reina. The 21-year-old made her professional MMA debut in November 2016 and in less than a year has picked up a 7-0 record and is currently the number-one ranked women’s welterweight fighter in the world.
Although Reina has looked extremely dominant, it should be noted that all her opponents, minus Shayna Baszler, had very limited mixed martial arts experience, with many making their professional debuts or coming from pro-wrestling backgrounds. If Reina feels ready to begin facing a step up in competition, there are a number of marketable welterweight females who have more combat sports experience and are waiting for the opportunity to show the world what they can do on the big stage.
Over the next few week’s WMMA Rankings will be introducing you to some of the athletes of the developing women’s welterweight division and today the spotlight is on undefeated Russian, Svetlana Khautova.
Khautova (2-0) is the number-two ranked women’s welterweight fighter in the world and currently competes for the Russian based organization, ‘Fight Nights Global’, as part of their women’s 165-pound division. The 30-year-old made her professional debut in May 2015, knocking out Daria Radionova in the second-round. She made her return to the cage this past April, winning a unanimous decision over Kazakhstan’s Zamzagul Fayzallanova, who was considered the heavy favorite leading into the fight and is a black belt in Judo. Khautova believes she is the best in the world at welterweight and feels her grappling heavy attack will be too much for Reina.
