The vacant UFC flyweight title will be on the line at December 8’s UFC 231 event when number-one contender, Valentina Shevchenko, takes on former strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Shevchenko (15-3) made a huge statement in her flyweight debut last February, putting a brutal beatdown on Priscila Cachoeira before submitting her in the second-round. Many are tipping the ‘Bullet’ for superstardom at 125-pounds due to her performances in the 135-pound bantamweight division in which she didn’t cut weight and picked up victories over the likes of Holly Holm, Julianna Pena and Sarah Kaufman. She also notably took the champion, Amanda Nunes, to decision on two occasions in bouts where fans were divided on who they truly fought won.
Jedrzejczyk (15-2) was one of the most dominant UFC champions of all time before losing the belt to Rose Namajunas last November. The 31-year-old won the belt from Carla Esparza at UFC 185 in March 2015 and went on to defend the belt five times, defeating the likes of Jessica Andrade, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Valerie Letourneau and Jessica Penne. In her most recent showing last July, she picked up the unanimous decision win over Tecia Torres. Jedrzejczyk has made it known she severely struggled to make weight at 115-pounds, meaning fans can expect to see perhaps the best version of the former champ at 125-pounds.
The fight between Shevchenko and Jedrzejczyk is an exciting fight between two seasoned strikers who enjoyed huge success in the sport of Muay Thai before competing in MMA. The pair have history together, having fought in Muay Thai three times, with Shevchenko winning all of them.

UFC 231 takes place on Saturday December 8 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The main card featuring Jedrzejczyk vs. Shevchenko will be aired live on pay-per-view from 10pm EST.
