VIDEO: Nicco Montano and Valentina Shevchenko square off for the first time at the UFC 25th anniversary press conference

Friday night at the UFC 25th anniversary press conference, Nicco Montano and Valentina Shevchenko faced off for the first time ahead of their UFC 228 flyweight title fight on September 8.

TUF winner Nicco Montano looks to make the first defense of her UFC flyweight title in September.

Montano (4-2) will attempt to make the first defense of her UFC flyweight title after defeating Roxanne Modafferi in the TUF 26 Finale last December to capture the belt. Many feel Shevchenko (15-3) is a huge threat to Montano due to her success against bigger girls in the 135-pound bantamweight division in which she picked up impressive wins over Holly Holm, Julianna Pena and Sarah Kaufman, as well as taking Amanda Nunes to the distance in close fights on two occasions.

Ahead of September’s highly anticipated encounter, both women faced off for the first time at the press conference. Take a look below, courtesy of ReactQ:

    1. “Outrageous”, really? Valentina stans — not fans, but those brash and mindless followers she’s amassed in recent times — have been baying for blood for months now. Strip her, defend or vacate, she’s scared, yadda yadda yadda. Despite that the UFC have afforded her a level of understanding they’ve definitely not shown many other fighters within the organisation, and frankly to offer a champion a ‘tune-up’ fight would likely both be damaging to the fighter’s brand as well as setting an uncomfortable precedent going forward. Nicco has been treated more than fairly — by the company, even if not the fans.

  1. I really like Valentina,
however the way that too many people are dismissing Nicco. Makes my British “support the underdog” instincts kick-in.
    So Im supporting Nicco
