Saturday night at Dynasty Combat Sports 37, Jozette Cotton defeated Sarah Patterson by way of a unanimous decision to become the first ever women’s lightweight champion of the world. All three judges scored the contest 48-47 in favor of Cotton.
Cotton improves her record to 7-1-0. After remaining undefeated and dominating the lightweight division for many years, the 29-year-old suffered a huge upset loss to Bobbi-Jo Dalziel last October, prompting an almost one-year layoff. On Saturday she successfully made her hugely anticipated return to the cage, taking out the current number-one ranked lightweight in Patterson. A rematch with Dalziel is no doubt a fight which is highly likely for Cotton’s first title defense.
Following the victory, the champion was out celebrating the big win with fans as well as her friends and family who were in attendance at the event. Videos have surfaced of some of the celebrations, take a look at them below.
