The UFC hosts a highly anticipated featherweight title fight on December 29 when Cris Cyborg looks to defend the belt against Amanda Nunes in the co-main event of the UFC 232 pay-per-view event.
Cyborg (20-1) is perhaps the most dominant force in WMMA history and is considered by most as the number-one pound-for-pound fighter in the world. She owns promotional victories over Holly Holm, Tonya Evinger, Yana Kunitskaya, Lina Lansberg and Leslie Smith. Prior to joining the UFC she picked up wins over the likes of Marloes Coenen, Gina Carano and Shayna Baszler. The 33-year-old has finished seventeen of her twenty professional career victories by way of knockouts.
In Nunes (16-4), she will face a fellow Brazilian power puncher who has finished the likes of Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, Sara McMann, Germaine de Randamie, Julia Budd and Raquel Pennington.
This past weekend, Valentina Shevchenko, the number-one flyweight fighter in the world who challenges for the vacant UFC belt on December 8, took to her social media pages to firmly establish herself behind the champ, Cris Cyborg. The ‘Bullet’ posted a promotional graphic of the bout to her Instagram page, along with the caption ‘Let’s go Cris’. It should be noted that Shevchenko has history with Nunes, having lost to her by decision twice, the second time when challenging for the UFC bantamweight title. Shevchenko has made it known that she disagrees with the decision and still believes she is the rightful 135-pound champ.
