Tonight, the first of three exciting female fights in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, takes place in the strawweight division as top-fifteen ranked contenders Randa Markos and Nina Ansaroff go to battle.
RECAP: Nina in the yellow and Randa in the red! Ansaroff starts off with three solid low kicks but Markos moves in for the takedown and eventually gets it. Great top pressure from Markos and she controls the rest of round one with superior grappling. Round two– per corner direction Nina, is really working the calf kicks and they are starting to show some effect. Nina is piecing Randa up on the feet, picking her shots wisely. Markos is 1 for 5 in takedown attempts and Nina’s defense is holding up well. In the last minute and a half of the round, Markos starts finding her range! It is easily 19-19 going into the final frame. We are in the third round and Markos is coming on aggressively! Midway through the round, still on the feet, Markos opens up the nose of Nina with a stiff jab. Markos pressures Ansaroff against the fence– she looks for a trip but ends up on the bottom! Some ground and pound from Ansaroff until the bell sounds.
THOUGHTS: WMMA Rankings scored the bout 29-28 for Ansaroff. Nina made great in-fight adjustments and showed solid takedown defense. She should definitely find herself in the top ten her next go around. Markos continues her trend of alternating L’s and W’s since her UFC debut. Despite the inconsistency, Markos is a tough challenge for anyone in the division.
Nina Ansaroff def. Randa Markos via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
